The older boys spied The Eliminator immediately, a tall inflatable with a giant swinging inflatable ball; the idea being to knock your opponents off their perch. They thought this was just brilliant. The best moment was when four-year-old Ted insisted on getting up and having a go with the big boys…and managed to stay on, bless him!
The enormous Bouncy Pillow (a 40-foot-long yellow rubber inflatable) beckoned next. The kids all spent ages on here whilst we basked in the sun on adjacent benches. Jack’s Ball Blast was a big hit – literally! You shoot sponge balls out of Nerf-style guns at your friends…and then duck as they fire back. From there we took in roller-skating (outside), archery, a tractor ride, Go Karts, Quad Karts (£1 extra a go), and a spot of pig racing! There’s also a huge adventure playground, complete with sandpit, which all the kids enjoyed. Every year, from July onwards, Apple Jacks is famous for its massive Maize Maze. Our springtime visit was too early, so we missed out, but I’ve heard it’s a goody. Apparently families can end up spending ages in here, searching for clues to help them escape!
It’s worth mentioning that Apple Jacks is all on the flat, so dead easy for prams; and also it’s not overwhelmingly big. You feel that you can pretty much see everything around you so, at certain points when our children wanted to play in different zones from each other, we could still keep an eye on them all. We’d taken along our own food and set up a picnic blanket on the field near the Go Karts. There is a café on site though and a good-looking barbecue was blazing nicely, serving up burgers and hot dogs, so next time I might take that option!
Undoubtedly, we experienced Apple Jacks at its best, a glorious day without a cloud in the sky. As the majority of the activities are outside, I’m not quite sure how you’d fare here in very wet weather, so pick a sunny day and give Apple Jacks a whirl!
