With the culture and spirit of Buenos Aires at its heart, Cau is one of the new chain restaurants that seems to be conquering high streets all over. Their usp is its ‘mouthwatering’ Argentinian beef so burgers and steak are the main feature on the menu. And the ‘Latin burger’, with roasted peppers, jalopeno and avocado that I demolished couldn’t be beaten. Recently we tried the newly-opened Didsbury branch of Cau – sited on the corner of Barlow Moor Road in the old Zizzi’s spot. It was Jo and I with a gaggle of five kids who proceeded to happily chomp their way through a variety of the dishes on offer so they can fully endorse starters of salt and pepper squid, humus with aubergine caviar, ribs and empanadas. For mains, they stuck to the Kids’ Menu which served up generous-sized burgers, steaks, chicken wraps and sausage cassoulet amongst other options. Pricewise, the kids menu is £7.50 including a drink but excluding dessert. Adult burgers start at £9.95, during the week Cau offer an express menu – £11.95 for two courses – excellent value. We all thought Cau was excellent – plenty of choices even for the non red meat lovers and reckon it’s a tasty addition to the already good mix of restaurants in Didsbury village!
