The magic of the Crocky Trail is in its simplicity – and that it is just good old-fashioned fun! Run free in the playground and on the trail, get muddy and wet, and have an adventure while scaring yourself just a little bit! On arrival my boys excitedly changed into wellies and waterproofs and immediately ran off towards the enormous slides and mechanical rides. Imaginatively designed, the rides in the play area are refreshingly anti-health and safety, complete with heart-in-your-mouth vertical slides and spinning barrels.
Highlights included a Surfer Slide, rocking and sliding the boys around as it moved back and forth like a huge wave; a Total Wipeout inspired beam and a roundabout with a difference, in that it spins you off at speed! When higher slides beckon, Titanic awaits; a slope that rises slowly until it is almost vertical. Stay on as long as you can – if gravity doesn’t get you, the judder at the end will! Even the youngest member of our party had plenty of fun on the mini-diggers.
Lunch time was soon upon us so we grabbed our picnic from the car and as it was a drizzly day found a table in the covered area. A small café sells a selection of hot and cold drinks, lunches and ice creams.
After lunch we headed off to the trail. It is possible to negotiate a pushchair around, but if your toddler is inquisitive they won’t stay in it for long, there’s too much fun to be had! Starting as a well-trodden muddy path, the trail presents challenges along the way including precarious swinging rope bridges, underground tunnels, muddy pools and swings. At each obstacle we encountered groups of muddy giggling children; muddy giggling mums too! The trail took an hour or so to complete. My eldest son declared that this was the best place he had ever been to.
We drove home completely exhausted, with the children planning a return trip! Next time we will remember to pack a change of clothes!
