So it’s a theme park where kids get to ride lots of real full-size construction machinery… no, I’m not kidding you. Diggerland claims to be the UK’s most unique attraction and I think they’re probably right. There are a variety of rides and often younger children need to be accompanied by an adult (wahey!) It’s a fun and unusual place to bring family and friends for a day out.
From the minute you arrive, Diggerland is impressive – there are lots of different sized yellow JCBs lined up just waiting for someone to have a go. They are all static but you can move the arm and bucket around and there are levers to play with.
Other attractions include the Sky Shuttle – where a digger lifts you 50 feet into the air, Ground Shuttle where you sit in the bucket of a digger and are driven at speed around a patch of wasteland, and Spin Dizzy – an enormous digger that spins you round until you literally plead to get off! For a more sedate time, try the tractor that pulls a long line of trailers slowly around the park, or Dig-a-round – a carousel with buckets instead of seats. There are also coin-operated dodgems and a rather good indoor soft play area. The absolute favourite for our lot was driving the child-sized motorised land rovers around a road course.
Foodwise, a couple of burger vans serve the usual. There are plenty of tables outside and some inside, so I’d suggest taking a picnic if you’re there for the day.
We’ve visited in sunny and slightly wet weather and on both occasions we’ve not had to queue for terrible amounts of time. If you’re after a theme park with a bit of wow! factor then Diggerland’s definitely the one for you!
