In the most splendid setting, this is where you get your coffee and cake if you are watching a performance at the Royal Exchange Theatre. It doesn’t have to be limited to theatregoers however, as this pleasant café is a lovely spot to stop with kids or a baby at any time.
Firstly there’s bags of space, so if you have a pram or scooters, coats and kid’s stuff, you can plonk them all down easily. Also there is plenty to look at in the hall – barefooted actors milling around, odd bits of scenery being wheeled into the theatre, high-domed ceilings, and the fabulous architecture of the building itself together with the modern theatre within. It’s all light food – sandwiches, scones and cakes. Mine enjoyed brownies and cartons of orange, as well as helping themselves to a small jug of milk each from the condiments area as I collected cutlery. As the café is adjacent to the box office, make sure you buy some tickets for the next production!
