This is the UK’s largest indoor waterpark and it has something for everyone. As soon as you leave the changing rooms you feel like you are on holiday, with the temperature at a tropical 84 degrees! You pay to enter whether you go on the slides or not so you may as well join in. You can even hire swimsuits and a towel so there are no excuses.
There are more than 18 slides and attractions with great names such as Typhoon Lagoon and HMS Thundersplash! Definitely worth a try is the world’s longest indoor roller coaster waterslide at 250 metres called the Masterblaster – if you are brave enough and over eight years old! Note that some of the bigger rides (Hyperzone) require an additional wristband to be purchased before you ride. For younger kids there is everything from a wave pool to a pirate ship play area, lazy river, bumpy slides and several tunnels. As long as younger children sit on your knee they can also go on some of the more adult rides.
The waterpark opens at 10am and the car park next door was full by 9.30am. We parked behind the Pleasure Beach and walked round. There are lots of tables to eat lunch at and various fast-food outlets, but be prepared to queue. If you don’t want to carry cash in your bikini, you can load up a wristband with virtual money when paying to enter.
So go, make a splash at Sandcastle – we were there for over six hours and had a blast!
