Having an art gallery of this calibre close by is a privilege. The Tate at Albert Dock hosts some remarkable exhibitions. Sure, small children are not going to tolerate a gallery of this size and weight for long, but a fly-by is undoubtedly manageable. The Tate’s family area on the first floor of the gallery, with beautiful views across the River Mersey, certainly helps. It’s a perfect space for kids to take time out, relax, play and create. Workshops are held over the school holidays so check the website ahead of your visit. I like lunch at the Tate Café, with a selection of sandwiches, salads and hot meals available. There is a children’s menu (only available during weekends and half-terms).
Daily 10am-5pm. Admission free except exhibitions.
