This is our fourth book and yet Tampopo remains one of my favourite child-friendly restaurants. It’s quick, reasonably priced and consistently good. We tend to meet my in-laws from Bolton two or three times a year here; we all like the menu, which is healthy and has a fine choice of Asian dishes. The little ones love the easy-to-use chop sticks and the placemats conveniently double up as activity colouring sheets.
Harry, who’s now eight, still likes their Junior Explorer menu – noodles with chicken, broccoli and sweet soy sauce. Sam always has the Mini Explorer – chicken satay, vegetable tempura, carrot and cucumber sticks with a plum sauce. Both dishes are £3.95. For £4.50 you can progress to the Mini Adventurer, which is a small portion of any of the adult main dishes.
NB: Tampopo Albert Square is accessed by a steep staircase on the way in, which can be a struggle with the pushchair; and there are no baby-changing facilities. Tampopo at The Corn Exchange has easier access and does have baby changing.
